Documenting restoration work on a 1970 VW Karmann Ghia Convertible Automatic Stick-Shift. I hope what I've learned helps someone else down the road. Enjoy!

Rust...Take 3
Looking rearward from the passenger compartment toward the transmission. What would expect a Ghia that had been submersed in water to look like after 20 years, give or take? Just like this.
Rust and dirt, looking at the body-less pan. Note the automatic tranny servo. Boy, that tire has some tread left on it, that ought to save me some coin.
More good stuff, now that the body is off. The package tray, which had been sitting in the leaky garage with the leaky convertible top raining down on it, is completely rusted through. We are in deep doo-doo, it is starting to sink in.
Okay, first things first. Body off the pan. Let's have real look. Notice the crease above the driver's side rear wheel. A little pouding and hey! good as new. Right!
Yeah, cool hubcaps....but at least the back seat, which would have at least acommodated my oldest son Adam who's peeking in the passenger side door, was intact.
Engine bay...all the standard stuff...no! All the Automatic stuff, see the vacuum bottle and such off to the right? Look close and you'll see the ubiquitous rot where the battery would go, on the left.
