A New Story

Called Ed Henry on Thursday the 28th, mad as hell. Car wasn't ready, no phone call from him.

I insisted on a firm date for delivery. He said he needed 3 weeks. I responsded that I was reluctant to allow him 3 weeks as the record showed that he wasn't good at keeping promises. I asked by what reason did I have to believe that he would meet this new deadline. He responded with the following offer: if he did not have my car ready by July 19, then any work that he had done on the car to this point would cost me nothing.

Now, I know that he has done some work on the car, doing nearly all the prep work necessary for the respray. The doors are on the car, the decklids mounted. There is a small amount of body work to do on the rear decklid, per our discussion.

I responded by asking if he intended to make an honest effort to finish the work, and if not, I'd just as soon know now so that I wasn't wasting another 3 weeks. He responded by saying yes, that was his intention, despite having lost a painter and a body man. I asked again if he was willing to make this committment, knowing what work he had in his shop, and what work he was expecting to have come into the shop over the next 3 weeks. He responded positively.

So I got my new bride on the phone and had him reiterate the offer. I wanted to confirm: "so on Wednesday July 18, you will call me to schedule the drop off time for the car?" (The arrangement was for pickup and delivery via rollback.) He responded positively to my question.

So that's where we stand.

Turns out, I left the oil slinger and Woodruff key off the crankpully end of the crankshaft. Had to breakdown the engine case again. Ah well, practice. This gave me some time to install a repair kit on two heater boxes I'd picked up on the Samba, and paint them using Eastwood's stainless steel paint. Pics later.
